From Diamond Rings to Boxing Rings

Eileen working out!

Eileen working out!

While most of us aren't too worried about our appearance in the gym, the same could not be said of Eileen Alexanian. Eileen is the co-owner of Diamonds ‘n Dunes, with her jeweler husband Ken. Eileen knows the importance of fitness on the Outer Banks, and has been a member of KnuckleUp Outer Banks for some time now.

Eileen loves jewelry and wears plenty of it, and even retains a few pieces during her workouts. She works out constantly with Matt Costa as part of his kickboxing class, and the results speak for themself. Eileen’s diamonds aren’t the only thing about her that are brilliantly cut!

Remember, it's important to stay hydrated

Remember, it's important to stay hydrated

Eileen’s store, Diamonds ‘n Dunes, is the number one destination for unique jewelry on the Outer Banks. And the inside of the store is as different from the gym as you can get. Sweeping high ceilings, statues of mermaids and wild horses, and beautiful Italian chandeliers all give a sense of class and sophistication as befits the high quality of Eileen’s and Ken’s superior design.

While they offer almost any type of jewelry you could ask for, they have an amazing collection of engagement/wedding rings. They are also the largest provider of Pandora Jewelry on the Outer Banks.

It’s hard to miss Eileen in the gym, as she is probably the only member that sparkles with every punch. If you’re looking for a gift for a special someone (or yourself!) chat her up about her store. If she can’t help you, no one can!

Eileen can take care of your wedding rings, but for any other wedding needs in the Williamsburg area take a look at Williamsburg Wedding Guide.

Dr. Craig McGiffin Works Out Pain

Dr. Craig McGiffin, one of the premier Outer Banks Chiropractic care-givers, shows the proper way to stretch a hamstring. Stretching should be a part of every workout. It increases flexibility, which gives the muscle longer fibers and the joints a larger range of movement, thereby reducing soreness and sports related injuries. It is just as important to stretch after a workout, as it is during.

As a member of the Outer Banks fitness club KnuckleUp, Dr. Craig knows first hand the importance of stretching during a workout.  He has been working out  at KnuckleUp for the past few years, and enjoys the challenge. He participates in both Boxing and Kickboxing. Dr. Craig has maintained a healthy body weight since he joined and is a frequent regular at the gym.

Dr. Craig knows the importance of a healthy lifestyle. Good nutrition and regular exercise are paths to leading a healthy and pain free life. However, as the video demonstrates,  improper practice can lead to sports related injuries.

Thankfully, Dr. Craig's chiropractic clinic in Southern Shores is ready to help with any physical pains, numbness or soreness.  Chiropractics disdains the unnecessary use of drugs and invasive surgery to treat chronic pain, and instead encourages lifestyle changes and better habits to lead to a naturally pain free existence.

So if you worked out a little too hard and are feeling a bit sore, ask Dr. Craig about making an appointment. He'll work the pain out of your body in no time.

KnuckleUp Running Team Dominates Valentines Race In Manteo

running club outer banks valentines race

Franco/Farmer team got the bronze medal

While most of us were busy worrying about what to buy to our loved ones, over 100 competitors gathered in Downtown Manteo to participate in the Sweetheart 8K Race this Valentines Day weekend.

The race covered approximately 5 miles, and the temperature sure didnt help. In the freezing cold, with wind blowing and flakes of  snow starting to fall, KnuckleUp Bootcampers put their hard training to test and came out extremely successful.

This run took them through “romantic” downtown Manteo and benefited The Dare County Food Pantry at Mt. Olivet Church.

Here are Team KnuckleUp's results:

  • Jay Bowman - 1st Place.
  • Shelley Tolbert and Cheryl Wiggins - 2nd Place.
  • Team Matt Costa and Ariadna Vucinovic - 2nd Place.
  • Team Kathy Farmer and Franco Mineo - 3rd Place.

KnuckleUp Fitness Outer Banks Now Official Member of USA Jiu Jitsu

KnuckleUp USA Jiu Jitsu approved school

KnuckleUp Fitness now carries the USA Jiu Jitsu badge

We are proud to announce that KnuckleUp Fitness Outer Banks has become the first USA Jiu Jitsu charter school in North Carolina.

USAJJ is a non-profit organization founded by some of the most respected and distinguished participants in Jiu Jitsu over the past 50 years.

USAJJ seeks to establish Jiu-Jitsu in the United States as an official amateur sport, to provide a governing body, to standardize rules for tournaments and set standards for promotions.

They also seek to provide guidance to individuals wishing to participate in the sport, either as operators of schools & academies or students just wanting to learn.

The organization helps foster relationships among those individuals and companies providing products and services to the Jiu-Jitsu community. The idea is to make the sport approachable and available to everyone.

According to KnuckleUp's GM Morrison Butler and USAJJ Membership Director Chris Stolzman, the benefits that current students of KnuckleUp will receive as part of the USAJJ organization include:

  • Belt certification by USAJJ Black Belt Council
  • Accident medical insurance - All youth and adult members of a USAJJ Charter School are covered while participating in sponsored activities. A member is also covered while traveling, directly and without interruption, to and from any Policyholder sponsored activity and his or her home or place of residence. Coverage is $100,000 per accidents with a $250 deductible.
  • Access to the official USAJJ class curriculum
  • $35 tournament entry fee - $49 off the regular entry fee
  • And a nationwide $10 fee to take classes at other member schools around the country!

An added bonus for KnuckleUp Fitness’ membership is a $1 million dollar general liability insurance for the club, staff, and students.

The policy defends schools against claims of bodily injury liability, property damage liability and the litigation costs to defend against such claims. Coverage is provided up to $1,000,000.00 per occurrence with a general aggregate amount of $2,000,000.00. That just gives KnuckleUp members extra piece of mind while training at the gym.

We're always working to provide you with the best! We are excited by the opportunities presented by our membership, and we believe this will benefit both the staff and students at KnuckleUp.

We also look forward to helping to further the goals of USA Jiu Jitsu and promote and encourage people from all walks of life to participate and enjoy the sport of Jiu-Jitsu.

Also, if you're ever in Colorado, check out Jiu Jitsu in Littleton!
