Ultimate MMA Strength & Conditioning - An Instructor's Review

Eric Wong's Ultimate MMA Strength Workout Introduces Creativity To MMA

Eric Wong's Ultimate MMA Strength Workout Introduces Creativity To MMA

Back in August we bought a copy of Eric Wong's Ultimate MMA Strength & Conditioning program and gave two of our instructors a copy. (Yes, we did copy it, but just once)

It may seem weird that the top MMA gym in the outer banks would buy an online training manual, but the fact is that a lot of students work out on their own, either because of scheduling issues or because they work better following their own program.

For those students, KnuckleUp wanted to have a solid w0rkout plan that they could follow and get better results than trying to figure it all out on their own.

So, we asked some of our instructors to look over the course and try it out. The very first thing they pointed out was the importance given to mental training and psychological preparation. As noted on the picture below:

To be absolutely honest, none of the instructors followed the training to the mark. Some of them barely opened the  course.

But the ones that at least skimmed over the content had nicer things to say than any of us expected out of an eBook:

Comments like "this guy really knows what he's talking about" were very common. But what was really impressive was the fact that they all agreed the program offered a solid base to develop lean, powerful muscles, with enough flexibility to turn any Jiu Jitsu move into a walk in the park.

Some of the Ultimate MMA Strength & Conditioning was already taught during classes, which reinforced the credibility of the author and gave our instructors the chance to add their tweaks to it.

However, the coolest feature of the course is by far the iPod/iPhone integration: Eric included a small video for each move, totaling way over 50 movies that are ready to load to any device with video (mp4) capabilities. That means for the past month or so, we've got instructors coming for their workouts with the videos loaded on Ipod.

It's actually funny to see them watching the videos over and over in the middle of our weight room ;)

For the verdict: the program is real solid - If you're trying to come up with a workout routine for MMA and dont have a personal trainer to guide you through it, this is for you.

Going To Cincinnati? Stop by Jorge Gurgel MMA Academy!

Our own Morrison Butler with Jorge Gurgel at JG MMA in Cincinnati

Our own Morrison Butler with Jorge Gurgel at JG MMA in Cincinnati

It's funny how the world is indeed a small place...

Some time ago, Morrison was running the KnuckleUp gyms in Atlanta, and basically ruling the MMA scene down there.

In one of their shows, he met Jorge Gurgel, who's not only a great fighter, but a successful gym owner as well (over 12 affiliated clubs across the US).

Fast forward to last September - one of Morrison's former KnuckleUp colleagues moves to Cincinnati to take the Sales Manager position at ... Jorge Gurgel MMA Academy!

Of course, while in Ohio, Morrison went to Jorge's school and took some pictures for us. He managed to get with UFC headliner Rich Franklin (who's Jorge's BFF - according to Jorge), and had a pretty tough training session there.

The cool thing is that JG MMA is now implementing KnuckleUp's kickboxing classes into their MMA program in Cincinnati - and they got a brand new bag room just for it (check out the pictures below).

So if you're ever up North, wondering where to train, dont think twice: JG MMA has the best mma classes in Cincinnati!

And if you're not looking for mma, you can continue your kickboxing workouts in Cincinnati as well.
