The Flying Pirate Half Marathon

KnuckleUp at the Flying Pirate Half Marathon

KnuckleUp at the Flying Pirate Half Marathon

The Flying Pirate Half Marathon ran Sunday April, 18th, and some of our members were in it! Of the 1,500 runners who participated this year, 18 were members of the KnuckleUp Beach Boot Camp. These are 1,500 of some of the toughest competitors from the Mid-Atlantic, and our people were able to hold their own. Congratulations!

The Flying Pirate Half Marathon is the first half of the Outer Banks Marathon which will be held this November. It is approximately 21 km and is part of a series of marathons. It started in Kitty Hawk and ended in Nags Head, where there was a celebratory party and award ceremony behind Wings.

Leading the KnuckleUp crew was Coach Matt Costa with a finish time of 1hr and 46min, followed closely by Allison Saunders-Broughton, the wife of Matt Broughton, owner of Cosmo's Pizza in Corolla. Allison placed 4th in the ladies 25-30 age group. Congratulations Allison!

Other notable participants were the father-daughter team of Preston Carswell and Shannon Clift, as well as newcomers Mishelle Musika and Lisa Cafferty.

Congratulations to all of the competitors of the Flying Pirate Half Marathon, and especially to Matt Costa’s Boot Camp class for making us proud!

We’d also like to extend a special thanks to our volunteers: Kathy Farmer, Mary Luton, and Sharon Elliot.

A complete list of KnuckleUp runners in the Flying Pirate Half Marathon:

We would also like to send a thank you out to the Dean Agency for all of their help.  When you are in the market for a new place, take a look at a Nags Head oceanfront home.

MidgettGray.com & KnuckleUp OBX Present The Biggest Loser Challenge

KnuckleUp Bootcamp Biggest Loser Challenge

MidgettGray.com & KnuckleUp OBX - Bootcamp Biggest Loser Challenge

Spring is coming up, and along comes swimsuit season, and then.... Everybody rushes to the gym at the last minute.

This year, we're NOT going to let you do that. We're getting you off of your couch and exercising, and paying you for it!

The Biggest Loser Challenge

In partnership with top online designer fashion boutique MidgettGray.com, KnuckleUp Outer Banks is going to award 2 students for their fitness achievements in this pre-summer season.

Students may win by losing the most amount of weight overall or by a percentage of weight loss. For example, if a 160lb student comes down to 135lb, while a 250lb comes down to 220lb, the first student would win by % of weight loss even though the second lost more pounds.

This way, everybody's got a fair shot at the prizes. And we're sure you're going to enjoy the prizes!

What You're Getting

For the ladies, MidgettGray is offering a $200 gift card to get your wardrobe updated for the summer. All you have to do is log on to www.MidgettGray.com and create your wish list. Angie Newsome, the store owner, will be at KnuckleUp to assist everybody with the registration process and picking the best fit for your body type.

For the gentlemen, KnuckleUp is matching the $200 gift card with exclusive fight gear - and we've just received brand new MMA gloves from Ring To Cage that are perfect for training and competition.

So we're helping you get in shape AND keeping you motivated with a nice prize at the end ;)

How To Enter The Challenge

On Tuesday, March 2nd, Matt Costa weighed all bootcamp participants and recorded their weight. If you're not on the bootcamp, you need to see Matt or a KU instructor to officially record your weight.

On April 20th, Matt will record everybody's final weights and declare the winners.

Participation is open to everybody - Bootcamp students, KnuckleUp members, and even non-members. See an instructor to record your weight, log on to MidgettGray.com and start putting your wish list together.

Stay tuned for more details!

KnuckleUp OBX Challenge Benefits OBX Hotline

The 2010 KnuckleUp OBX Challenge is a quest for those wanting to defy themselves to run one of the following goals BY NOVEMBER 14, 2010:

500 Miles (13.5 miles/wk) -

1000 Miles (27 miles/wk)

(the weekly mileage is based on start date 03/02)

STEP ONE:

Cost of the challenge is an initial $50. When a runner hits 300 miles they give another $50, and then the same when they reach 500.

STEP TWO:

Runners (all levels) join the challenge group online by going to www.dailymile.com and simply setting up a free dailymile page.

STEP THREE:

.... RUN!
And then you log that run on Dailymile.com. It's super easy and becomes something you cant wait to do.
Jay and Matt will be challenge leaders and will be offering Sunday 7am runs along various courses and routes, usually a 4 to 5 mile run at an easy pace, and then possibly a long run once a month.
Distance is always set by you!

More details:

*New runners can join the challenge at anytime along the journey to 11/14/2010
** Jay will be the treasurer, keeping the books, and making sure the funds are in a bank account that will hopefully accrue some cash during the season.
*** We will be highly encouraging you to use the local races to keep you motivated throughout the challenge. Every mile is critical towards your goal.

Come join us to do something amazing this year!
