Did You Get Pumped for Pink?

The medals for the first 125 to finish.

The medals for the first 125 to finish.

I hope so!! Or Matt's going to have you doing push-ups til your arms fall off!

But really, it was an awesome race. Our favorite Super-Trainer, Matt Costa, and his right hand man ,Rev. Jay Bowman, were really instrumental in pulling it together, and was undoubtedly a resounding success! There were over 150 runners, and everyone had a great time.

The race started at 8 AM, and since the Boot Camp was a sponsor, Matt had everyone do 10 push-ups in the parking lot. Judging from some of the runner's faces, I'd say they this early morning work out was less than expected.

C'mon y'all, it's Matt. You should have known better.

The 1st place finisher for men was Eric Torrey, with an impressive 41:56. 1st place for women was Jessica Witter with an also impressive 45:32.

Junior knows how to warm up for the race!

XFC Lightweight Champion Junior Assuncao came from his MMA gym in Roswell and ran in the race. Junior had held a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu seminar on Thursday, and he donated all of the proceeds to the Get Pink campaign. His time was 51:41.

Also in attendance was Outer Banks Massage Therapy. They provide in-home massage on the Outer Banks, so it was no problem at all setting their tables up at the race. They were giving massages by the minute, and donated a portion of the money they made to the charity as well.

After the race, there was plenty of food and drink for everyone. A lot of people donated food, and we want to thank all of you. We also want to thank everyone who helped sponsored the race.

Morrison, Matt, Junior and Jay after a great race!

Morrison, Matt, Junior and Jay after a great race!

And a great big thank you to all the people who volunteered their time into making this race possible. Without you, it would never have happened.

And for those of you who missed it, for the next four Mondays, Matt's holding the O2BC Adventure 5k at 7 AM at the Black Pelican beach access in Kitty Hawk. If you complete these four races, you'll definitely be ready to Get Pumped for Pink next year!

If you'd like to see the times, here is the full list of runners for the Get Pumped for Pink 10k

Get Pumped For Pink With A Massage!

Christina and Aaron of OBX Massage Therapy

Christina and Aaron of OBX Massage Therapy

The Get Pumped for Pink 10K is coming up next Saturday. Have you registered yet? Make sure you do, it's going to be a blast! UFC veteran Junior Assuncao is going to run the race right off the heels of his seminar Thursday evening, which you also shouldn't miss.

And now we bring you news of another reason to come down and support the race. Aaron and Christina of OBX Massage Therapy will have their services on hand. Either before or after the race you can get a massage to get your blood pumped, or to relax sore muscles after the race. Or just get a massage because they feel really good!

Aaron and Christina will be offering massages by the minute. So whether you want a brief rub down to get you started, or a little work to get the knots out of a sore muscle, they've got you covered.

They'll be set up inside the club, and will donate a portion of the money to the fight against breast cancer.

Aaron and Christina own and operate OBX Massage Therapy, and provide a variety of at-home massage packages. They offer Swedish, deep tissue, facials and more. They also feature a range of bridal packages for both grooms and brides.

When the race is over, don't forget to cool down and work out the kinks with some light physical activity.  A great way to do it is with a few rounds of cornhole using some custom cornhole boards!

So come down to the gym a little early, or stay a little late, and ease your tired muscles. Running 10k is a perfectly valid reason to relax and pamper yourself a little bit, even if it's just a minute.

UFC Veteran Teaching at KnuckleUp! One Night Only!

Hey guys, big news! We’re going to have a seminar with a UFC fighter! Junior Assuncao (10-4) will be coming into town next week, and he will be doing some teaching.

Junior is from Northeastern Brazil originally, but now lives in the Atlanta area. He is a patriotic fighter: he has black belts in Jiu Jitsu AND capoeira, both native Brazilian martial arts. Unlike most MMA fighters who use May Thai or kickboxing as the base for their fighting style, Junior’s style is based in Capoeira. Capoeira requires a lot of agility, and looks like it would be more appropriate in a dance club than the fighting ring.

Seeing Capoeira in action is reason enough to come down for this seminar. Trust me.

He’s been coaching most of the past decade, so teaching a seminar for us is old hat. Plus, he’s the head instructor for Ascension MMA.

Aside from his mastery of BJJ and capoeira, Junior is skilled in boxing, judo, Muay Thai and wrestling. He definitely took the “mixed” part of mixed martial arts to heart. He’s trained in the world renown Black House in Brazil with the likes of Anderson Silva and Lyoto Machida.

The seminar will be Thursday, September 23 at 6 PM. Registration is $20, ALL of which will be donated to the PUMP for PINK 10k being hosted by everyone's favorite fitness gym on the Outer Banks, KnuckleUp. Which, I might add,  Junior will also be competing in. Call or stop by to register. Space is limited, so don’t wait too long!

And make sure you sign up. Remember the last seminar at KnuckleUp and how awesome it was?
