Quick MMA Show-Off: TinMan & PK On The Ring

Two of the Gym's Best Talents On The Ring

Justin 'Tinman' Newton, the youngest instructor at KnuckleUp Obx, joins PK on the ring for a quick MMA training.

Tinman is gaining lots of popularity amongst students due to his commitment and his high-energy kickboxing classes. He's one of our many success stories, having lost over 30lbs of fat and gaining massive lean muscle in a short amount of time.

Recently, Tinman went on to score high in a national wrestling competition, showing amazing jiu jitsu and submission skills. On this video, he shows how the best MMA training in the Outer Banks quickly overcomes a huge reach difference as Tinman dominates the round.

KnuckleUp OBX Debut: Billy Frezza's First MMA Cage Fight

Billy Frezza Will Be Debuting In The First MMA Cage Fight In The Outer Banks

Billy Frezza Will Be Debuting In The First MMA Cage Fight In The Outer Banks

KnuckleUp's own Billy Frezza will make his debut during the first ever MMA Cage Fights in the Outer Banks, to take place July 18th, at the old SeaMark Store in Nags Head.

The Outer Banks club is proud to support Billy and he's been receiving a well-rounded training, worth of a large amateur show.

Billy has been training with all of our highly-qualified instructors, each teaching him their specific areas of expertise, ranging from cardio training to jiu jitsu submissions.

I had the honor to help him with his submission training, and I was flabbergasted by his agility, speed, and technique. Given the approximate 70lbs difference between us, Billy's ground game is effective and sharp.

A very dedicated fighter, he's commited to the training, respects his intructors, and spends an unsurmountable amount of time at the gym. If Morrison had not told me this was his first fight, I'd have taken him for a skilled veteran.

During his debut in the Fight To The Finish VI bouts, Billy plans for a stand-up fight, and according to Morrison, "He's a heck of a puncher".  Over the past month, Billy has improved every aspect of his game, and all of his instructors are impressed with how much he's been able to master in such short notice.

KnuckleUp Wants You There!

KnuckleUp is the main sponsor for the event, and we're counting on you to make Billy's fight, and the entire event, a MAJOR success.  Be sure to schedule your nights off!

The fights start at 7:00pm on Saturday, July 18th.  Tickets are on sale online at www.aflmma.com, but you can get TWO FREE TICKETS when you sign up here

KnuckleUp Special Guest: Grappling Master Sean Spangler

Sean Spangler (left) and Leo Saraceni after exclusive class 6/18

On Wednesday, the 17th, and Thursday, the 18th, KnuckleUp had the honor to welcome Sean Spangler on the mat.

Sean taught an exclusive seminar on Wednesday, for a group of intermediate and advanced fighters, and left each one of them impressed with the technique and effectiveness of his teaching.

In Las Vegas, where Sean spends most of his time, he trains with Robert Drysdale and a team of high-caliber professionals.

Sean brought to the seminar strong, proven drills, and shared with the students how to take basic moves to perfection by focusing on flawless execution.

His execution of the rear-naked choke is close to flawless, and according to him, the secret is knowing when and where to apply energy.

Sean is not the heaviest fighter on the mat (aprox 180lbs), but controls heavier and stronger opponents utilizing a rather suave style of jiu-jitsu that relies on focused pressure application instead of raw strength. When teaching a defense to the inside-guard arm bar, Sean explained how to control your opponent's hip movement as well as leg pressure, which allowed for a much more efficient defense against stronger opponents.

Here are some pictures of the Thursday class:
