2 New BJJ Videos Up - Master Kazeka Muniz shows Basic Moves

Our new head instructor Chris Stolzman brought with him a ton of videos of his KnuckleUp Fitness' original instructor master Kazeka Muniz - and we're very proud to post them here.

The videos will be available free either here or on KnuckleUp OBX YouTube channel.

On the first video, master Kazeka shows a fundamental Brazilian Jiu Jitsu movement called the Grambi Roll:

On the second video, master Muniz demonstrates the famous Mata Leao choke (the rear naked choke):

We sincerely hope you enjoy the videos - they'll be here for everybody - members and non-members.

If you really like them, leave a comment. We always appreciate the feedback!

See you soon.

New Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Video Series Up By Chris Stolzman & Kazeka

This is a quick highlight of yesterday's evening class with Head Instructor Chris Stolzman drilling everybody on open guard passes. Notice the nice "cartwheel" that Morrison Butler (white Gi, brown belt) pulls on Leo Saraceni (blue gi, blue belt).

Below you'll see the first two videos of an exclusive KnuckleUp Fitness series with Head Instructor Kazeka - these two relate jiu jitsu and self-defense in 2 escapes from the good-old Headlock:

The first video shows how to defend a headlock choke

And the second video shows how to keep from being punched in the face and defend the headlock.

We've got a ton of videos from master Kazeka coming up soon - just as we have a ton of videos of Chris Stolzman's classes coming up soon as well.

Our Outer Banks jiu jitsu class has been filling up almost every day, and we'll soon start an advanced class, according to instructor Stolzman's criteria.

Stay tuned for more videos and more news. And dont forget...

KnuckleUp Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Program Is A Major Hit (BJJ Rocks)

The New Jiu Jitsu Program Introduces Students To The "Smooth Art"

The New Jiu Jitsu Program Introduces Students To The "Smooth Art"

Along with the winter schedule came a highly anticipated Jiu Jitsu program, and 2 weeks into the course, it's already creating newfound fans in the gym. BJJ classes have been getting more and more students that seem to enjoy both the mental and physical challenges created by this intelligent art.

The new program has been on the plans since August, but it wasn't until master Chris Stolzman arrived that it really took off. Stolzman is an renowned brown belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, having well over 9 years of experience in BJJ. He is getting ready to implement the official USA Jiu Jitsu curriculum this coming week, after testing each student's experience level.

Before, students would receive a challenging mix of Wrestling, Judo, and Jiu Jitsu instruction in a manner more consistent with MMA - wearing only rashguards and shorts - no special garment. The MMA instruction would extend beyond Jiu Jitsu to simulate a more realistic situation and to help students that had upcoming fights.

According to Chris, however, when BJJ is practiced without GI most of the technique is compromised because students get slippery from sweat very quickly. And contrary to popular belief, it does not prepare for real life situations because in the case of an altercation, participants would always be wearing clothes.

A great deal of students have already tried this brand new style and are getting used to wearing the GI (also called Kimono) during class. They also enjoy the powerful workout - BJJ works abs, arms, legs, and back - without high-impact of joint strain.

KnuckleUp Team Rocked The Outer Banks Marathon

Part of KnuckleUp Team @ The Outer Banks Marathon - Only Winners!

Part of KnuckleUp Team @ The Outer Banks Marathon - Only Winners!

This past Sunday, November 9th, the Outer Banks hosted their famous Marathon - and of course, the KnuckleUp Team was there to completely dominate the event! (just like they did at the Kitty Hawk Heritage Day 5k race)

According to Matt Costa, our fitness bootcamp instructor, who ran the 1/2 marathon well under 2 hours, bootcamp students were able to finish the Marathon with ease... So much so that they were all back in the gym on Monday morning!

In this group of super-fit students were Shelley Tolbert, Courtney Wisecarver, Karly Wood, Kathy Farmer, and Franco Mineo, just to name a few. These winners all finished the 13 1/2 miles in the 2 hour mark - Congratulations everybody!

But we can not forget one of the super stars on the team: the fittest minister on the East Coast, Jay Bowman. Jay ran the full marathon (26+ miles) and took it as a "training session". Here's what Jay said about it:

"so it ended up being a marathon I used as a training run for a 50k race in Virginia Beach on december 19th. anyone interested in a challenge on trails?"

Huge Congratulations to Matt, Jay, Shelley, Karly, Kathy, Franco, Courtney, and everybody that ran on Sunday - we're very proud of you!
